In fact we are celebrating the 15th mushroom birthday with this issue. Who would have thought that our beloved Goa yellow press would pass quite some crisis and reach this remarkable age back in 1994, when it all began? Starting with only four pages, hand-copied and with a distribution in the area of North Germany we became an international Trance magazine. We accompanied the scene during its golden age in the late nineties but also experienced the times of massive music piracy and therefore the decline of the label landscape. We danced free our selves from social forces and discussed the sense of life at remote places. We saw several generations of Trancers coming, each one with another attitude. We witnessed evolution and innovation. I hope you also gathered so much precious experiences with our scene during the past years and found your own way of Trance. In this issue we want to recommend you many great parties where you can celebrate our mushroom anniversary and also the 20th birthday of the global Trance community. So we decided to make this June / July issue a Festival Special. Finally we also want to announce the winners of the Producer Contest. We are very happy that more then 1500 readers contributed the voting about the very best tracks. The next issue for August / September will be published in the first half of August. Albert Hofmann never released any track neither organized a festival - but his discovery of LSD originated the whole Psychedelic movement. But also without the good doctor it became a very trippy summer with quite nice weather and some wonderful festivals. So this August/ September issue is meant to keep us warm and dips deep into the indoor season. Freezing that‘s what many festival organisers may be, those who had to bear a loss due to the bad weather and fewer guests. For this reason it is unclear, if some of the open airs will take place next summer. Since the mushrroom magazine has always mirrored the scene, we too had to adopt to the changing developments. Apart from bimonthly frequency, the number of pages will change with each issue from now on. We also had to downsize our fulltime-team, which means that we have to bid farewell to Liese, our companion of many years and head of the editorial team. Nevertheless, Liese will still accompany us as reality designer and spiritual mentor, but elsewise heave to new shores. Thanks a lot, Liese for your long-lasting, creative, active, loyal and amicable collaboration and all the best for your future! But instead of singing the Blues, we are having many more years to come in mind! By the end of April we will be moving into a smaller location. While looking back with some melancholy together with Freshflyer and full of new energy we are also looking forward to our new home. Besides this 150. edition of the mushroom also the Brazilian Trancers Guide To The Galaxy (in Portuguese) has been published. All subscribers should receive one this month. We are happy to announce that by the time of our editorial deadline, over 150 tracks from all over the world had come in. We are happy to see that there is also a great deal of interest in our second contest. The motto this time was very straightforward: »Trance«. Indeed, when listening to some of the tracks, one can easily be catapulted into this state of mind. As with our previous competition, this time we would also like to leave the decision of who has come up with the best track mostly to our readers. The 31st of May will however also be a farewell day in the history of our magazine as our long term companion and editorial staff coordinator Claus is moving onto a new adventure. We would like to express our gratitude for five years of dedicated work on mushroom and drugstore (2003) as well as the Trancer‘s Guide To The Galaxy. With his support we also succeeded in making the leap from a German only publication to a monthly bi lingual magazine. In the last issue we mentioned our cooperation with Goabase. Colourful and shining, inviting yet somehow solitary as on this shot, which our patient photographer was so happy to capture in the fields of Brandenburg. The splendid specimen on the picture has become considerably large already as it seems, probably as a result of the mild winter and warm April. So now the main floors wait uncomplaining for party people to slowly gather their things and come visit them again, tickle them with their bare feet, and... Ahem. Our apologies, all this waiting around can make one quite cranky. If you're experiencing similar discomfort we have a little occupation therapy for you: step one, read the mag of course. Admittedly in a normal German April we’re so thoroughly soaked from above that no one in their right mind could possibly crave a refreshing shower being hosed down by a fire truck. We know. But we also feel that a large dose of pleasant anticipation is appropriate and recommended. We say: People, it‘s April already and we’ve almost made it through! For this reason we indulge in a closer look at the many glorious psy trance open airs taking place in various corners of Europe. The festival teams have long started preparations to unite us this summer under the happiest circumstances again and again. Our special attention goes out to them, and of course we also look ahead to some of the festival season‘s highlights. To conclude the Anne Clark Remix Contest we are now offering new subscribers a copy of the CD featuring the winning tracks. By now a list of all those that have won one of the many prices has been published online. The unexpectedly high number of remixes we received for our remix contest, as well as various projects in our day to day business - in short all the work that had to be done in the last few weeks have slightly challenged our working structures. Our editorial staff is very embarrassed about the delay! But we are a small team without the budget to quickly charter additional personnel when things pile up. In this edition the Anne Clark Remix Contest is resolved, interviews with all winners are available online, and the five artists of the most popular remixes are also introduced in this publication. Maybe it's also due to the incredible response we received to our Reader's Survey and the Anne Clark Remix Contest that we start the year in such a multi coloured mood ... 248 remixes are being heard and co-rated on our website at this moment by you. It's lucky for us we don't have to decide this all alone! You can still enter your vote until the 11th of February and the results will be published in next month's magazine. More than 1000 (!) people have already downloaded the files for our big Anne Clark remix contest, after all, there is plenty of phat producer software to be won. We‘ve already received some great remixes so far, but don‘t worry, you‘ve got until end of December to get yours in. Us Northerners still have a few fresh air events to look forward to thankfully, Indian Spirit for one. And after looking at the pictures from this summer‘s events we‘re starting to feel it again ... The pastures are still calling us! Soon it will also be time to say farewell to our uniformed friends and though they claimed driver safety was their main concern, as our picture shows some of this year‘s festival control points were extremely OTT. Our internal structure is undergoing changes, not something that you‘ll notice in the magazine, but mushroom media is changing into FORMAT Promotion GmbH (ltd.). This should help us develop the services we offer and allow us to get involved in other projects, Trance related and others.
